Hi, my spouse and I are getting divorce. We haven’t met the MOP of the HDB and are under 35. Can I keep my HDB if I add one parent? My parents are married but one of them owns a property so only the other one is eligible.

No, both your parents are considered an entity, thus if you wish to keep the HDB, both your parents' names has to be included, thus they may need to sell the other property. This is provided that the final court order allows you to keep this HDB. Are you a Singapore Citizen? Any kids?

Hi,

1) The option of adding one parent to fulfill the eligibility is not doable.
2) The HDB views a married couple as a single entity.
3) You will still have to meet the eligibility schemes listed even if the flat met the MOP in order to keep the flat.

Hi Sir/Mdm,

It will not be possible to add your parents' name inside and continue to hold on to the HDB because one of your parents owns a property especially if the property is a private property. In your case, you may appeal to HDB for a waiver of the MOP and allow you to sell in the open market.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. If you do not have any child, I am afraid you will not be able to hold onto the flat.

Based on my experience, HDB may repossess the flat at a substantially low price, which could be lower than your purchase price. You only chance would likely be to appeal to HDB for you to sell it in the open market. This is subjected to HDB's approval.
