Hi, thank you in advance with the following questions.
I am a Malaysian, with PR status in Sg. My fiance is a Singaporean, both of us are below 35 years old. We plan to get married and purchase a resale HDB under Public Scheme.
1. Can I list myself (SPR) as the owner, and my fiance (SC) as the essential occupier?
2. Assuming the answer to Question 1 is a yes, being an essential occupier, would he still be able to inherit the HDB from his parents in the future?
3. Assuming the answer to Question 2 is a yes, what if the inheritance falls within the 5-year MOP of the resale flat?
4. Assuming the answer to Question 1 is a yes, what are the other points that we should take into consideration?

Thank you very much for your advice.

Hi Ms,

Yes, you can purchase a resale HDB flat with your fiancé under the Public Scheme, with you being the sole owner of the flat.

As for inheritance, yes, your fiancé can inherit the HDB flat from his parents. However, as a family nucleus (he's the essential occupier of your flat), both of you will have to decide which flat to dispose off upon the inheritance of his parents flat. This is because each family nucleus can only own 1 HDB flat.

I am experienced and well-versed in both HDB and private transactions. I will be able to assist you in your property plans.

Thank you.
