I am in the midst of buying a resale flat just waiting for completion. The initial agreement is to allow sellers 3 months extension after completion. However, our alternative place of stay fell through and we will be homeless for about 3 months before being able to move in to our purchased flat. We have tried to negotiate with seller to vacate the house earlier(means no extension given) and we are willing to compensate them. However, seller refused to cooperate, they even refuse to meet up to discuss. We have initially wanted to inform of this situation BEFORE submission to HDB but our agent advised to go ahead with completion first before voicing out. The reason the seller is unable to move out earlier is because they granted 3 months extension to their seller (even though they are doing contra, which states that only the contra party is allowed to request for extension). We are a family of 4, with 2 small kids (less than 6 years old) and we do not know what to do. Our agent is not helping much. Any advice on this matter?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your situation.. If you are really desperate to for a place to stay, you can look for rental from HDB owners or private for their minimum stay. Even if it is for 6 months. At least you have a place to stay. Minimum for private is 3 months but you will spend less in total for the 3 months compared to the 6 months for HDB.

Hope this helps,
