What to do with 2-room flexi after marriage?

Context: I am single now, 35+, thinking of buying singles hdb with 10year mop. However I have one concern which is if I get married in the next few years and then want to start a family, 2 room flexi will be too small.

I'm concerned if my spouse also have 2 room flexi, then what path can we take to upgrade to a large accomodations. Or, just in general, what is the strategy for someone in my situation. What can I do about the 2room flexi, or should I think very hard before buying.

I would think that if you have concerns in settling down and having your own family, a good start instead will be to go into the resale market for a relatively new 3 room flat that comes with 2 bedrooms. This allow substantial more space and also if you have plans to have a bigger family, this unit can also be sold off more easily to upsize.

With the intention to settle down, why not secure a 3-room resale HDB unit? This option provides space for family planning as you pursue larger BTO units.
If you are interested in purchasing a 2-room flexi unit, you must fulfill the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) before you can upgrade. If your future partner also owns a 2-room flexi unit, you will need to decide which unit to keep once you register your marriage. Additionally, you may have to pay the Seller’s Stamp Duty (SSD) on the sale of the other unit.

Hi, if you have plans to start a family, it is ideally more practical to get a bigger unit, or perhaps a smaller unit with a smaller commitment ( perhaps shorter MOP of 5years) so that there are more space and time to cater for future plans if they ever arise.

Hi,

1) A 10 years MOP flat is difficult for you to have a flexible choice within the next few years.
2) A 5 years MOP flat would has a higher flexibility for you to appeal and make changes.
3) It would be even better if you have the capacity to buy a resale flat because you could buy a bigger flat, such as a 3-room flat.
4) You can stay with your future partner during the MOP, and may uprade to a bigger flat or apply for a BTO while staying in the flat once the MOP is over.
