Hi,

If you are referring to private property, then the answer is nope as most buyer need not pay any commission. But as for HDB purchase, then it is a yes and buyer will be the one paying his or her agent for their services.

If you have appointed an agent to purchase resale HDB, yes, commission is applicable. For private residential homes, it is encouraged to also pay your appointed agent although the existing practise is to share the commission among both seller and buyer agent.

If you have not appointed any, then you need not pay any commission and the selling agent can be penalised for soliciting for commission to be paid to his colleague or partner.
