I own a resale HDB flat, not on HDB any grant and completed MOP . My partner owns a pte property. When we get married, and i add him as an essential occupier, does he still need to sell his flat or can he still own his property?

Hi Andray,

Since the flat has already attained MOP, you do not need to add him as essential occupier, and both of you can keep your individual properties after marriage. Do let me know if you need to secure a tenant for your next property, I am contactable at 97432395  .

Hi Andriy,

Congratulations in meeting your MOP for the current HDB. It will be great to let us know why do you intend to add your spouse as an essential occupier in this case since you need not add him as an essential occupier to your HDB since you are legally allowed to own this HDB as a sole owner, however, in the event that you are looking to dispose off this HDB in the future, you will need to obtain spouse’s consent in order to do so. Your spouse will still be eligible to keep his current property, meaning you can remain as status quo and it is in fact an envy to many consumers out there who are thinking about how to own 2 properties under their name. If you have plans to optimise your portfolio from current situation moving forward, it will also be easier to plan.

Hi Andray,

Since your flat has already completed MOP, there is no requirement for your partner to sell his private property. After your marriage, you can either live in the HDB and rent out the private property to generate passive income or vice versa.
