If my husband owns a Hdb under his own name, he inherited it from his parents.

Can I get a private property in my own name to save on the stamp duty? Do we need to sell off the Hdb? Even I do not have my name inside the Hdb

Good afternoon,

Does your husband own any residential property at the moment? And may I know when did his parents purchase the property? This will determine whether he can keep the HDB.

If you guys already own 1 residential property, there will still be ABSD payable. It will be 17% based on SC 2nd residential property, on top of the usual 3% buyer's stamp duty (BSD).

May I have more info and requirements about your plans so as to make better recommendations? Thanks and look forward to value-add to your housing plans.

And your husband wont require to sell off the HDB based on the information you had provided.

You should be able to purchase a private property under your own name, however, it will be good to ascertain some details like whether if your husband owns any other properties when he inherits the HDB, as well as when was the HDB purchased?

If you are not one of the owners of the HDB, then there is no need to pay any Additional Buyer Stamp Duty when you purchase a private property. There is also no need to sell off the HDB.
