Do I need to pay commission to my agent if he disappeared for 6 months after signing the contract?

I stay in a 2 year rental apartment and had to pay my agent 1 month rent however my agent dissapeared after signing the contract and when I needed any help was not available. After 6 months he is gettin in touch with me to pay the commission. Am I obliged to pay the money?
