Hi, I'm a prospective tenant and recently viewed a condo rental unit. I saw a listing on property guru and contacted the landlord agent directly. During the negotiation, I told the agent that I can only take a six months lease. The agent told me that his commission will be pro-rated by the landlord as it is less than a year, and wants me to pay for the difference. Is this a common market practice? Thank you.

Hi, nope it is not a normal practice in the 1st place. An agent can collect commission from only 1 party, it is either the tenant or the landlord but never both. If any agent caught doing so, he or she will be prosecuted.

Hi,

This is not a common practice, only 1 party, either landlord or tenant the property agent could collecting commission. It is an offence that he/she collecting commission from both parties.
