You will need to fulfill min 5 yrs MOP for HDB before you are allowed to buy a Private Condo.

There are other options that you might wish to consider if having passive income is one of your priorities. Does holistic retirement planning sounds like its something you would like to consider....

Hi,

Hi,

You can sell off your EC after 5 years.

But after selling, it does not make sense for you to buy a private condo and a HDB resale flat.

If you buy a private condo and then a HDB resale flat, you are required to sell off this condo within 6 months after the completion of your HDB resale flat. This will likely incur you a 16% SSD (Seller Stamp Duty) for the sale of your private condo, if the purchase is within 1 year.

If you buy a HDB resale flat first, you will need to serve a 5-year Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) before you can buy a private condo.

    So to say and make sense for my plan.
    Buy HDB -Have to stay 5 years (MOP) then I can buy a private without any penalty?

    What if I do not sell away my EC and I buy a private condo to rent? Will there be any penalty ? Is there any rules that I have to any seller stamp duty if the private condo is mainly for rent?

If you are looking at staying in HDB unit and rent out private condo, it would mean that you will need to sell away your EC after fulfilling MOP. Then you will buy another HDB unit. Fulfill MOP again before getting your second property. It would not make any commercial sense to do so. If your financial status allow, why not purchase your second property and stay in your EC?
