I read with interest on last Sunday's SundayTimes newspaper that, one article interviewed the so called Property Guru of Ms Tan Yang Po - she has 2 private properties and 1 HDB flat in Singapore and rented all 3 at the same time. She is now staying with her husband in EC apartment.

I will like to know, is it legal to rent out HDB and stay in EC ? How could a family having both HDB flat and EC apartment at the same time ?

Will appreciate someone to teach me how to do as what she is doing now... Thanks.

Hi John,

The sequence of event would be to first own a HDB (new or resale is fine). Fulfil the MOP and proceed to purchase a resale EC. In this case, you would be able to stay in the EC and rent out the HDB flat. You could also continue to purchase more private properties but will be subjected to the additional buyer stamp duties for the 3rd properties onwards.
