My fiancé owns a resale hdb flat (within mop) under single scheme, he is above 35yo. If we get married, is it necessary to add my name as occupier? as i may use my name to buy a condo as first timer, any way to avoid absd?

Hi Buyer,
If you plan to purchase your own condo later, it is not advisable to insert your name in. This is not legally required.

Hi Ms,

There is no need for you to include your name as the co-owner of his flat, but you will be required as the essential occupier once you're married. This means that you can still purchase a condo without ABSD, but you will need to wait for his MOP to be over.

If you wish to purchase the condo before he meets his MOP, then you will need to purchase the condo BEFORE you get married. This way, upon marriage, both of you need not dispose off either of the properties.

HDB usually will require spouse's name to be added into the flat as essential occupier if not owner. If you wish to purchase a private property, will strongly advise you to do so before marriage.

Hi,

1) You may buy a condo before married.
2) After married you can be an occupier and not a co-owner. Otherwise, you will need to dispose of your purchased condo before married.
3) This is because you cannot own a private residential property first then own an HDB flat later. But this can be done the other way round after meeting the MOP.
