Asked by
Dear AskGuru Experts,

I will be turning 35 in a few months time in 2022 and I have a few questions regarding the purchase of HDB BTO flats:

1) If I form a family nucleus of 1 applicant (myself) and 2 occupiers (my parents), would I be able to buy a 3 room or larger BTO unit?

2) My parents sold a subsidized HDB unit many years ago (in 2010), and I know that they are subjected to paying a resale levy if they intend to purchase a subsidized flat. Would this affect me buying a BTO unit with myself as main applicant, and they as occupiers?

3) In the above scenario, am I still considered a first time applicant?

4) If somehow, due to the nucleus I mentioned above, I have to pay a resale levy, am I able to get a discount or complete waiver upon appealing with HDB?

I hope that the experts here would be able to help me out. I look forward to your kind responses.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi,

1) If you form a family nucleus with your parents to buy a BTO you shall be classified under the Public Scheme.
2) Therefore you are not restricted to only buying a 2-rm flat in a non-mature estate.
3) You also don't have to wait till 35 to apply for the BTO.
4) Since your parents are not the owner of the BTO they are not subject to the resale levy.
5) You will be considered a 1st time applicant.
6) No resale levy is applicable in your scenario.

Hope the above answer your main concerns, but if there are more query, please feel free to contact me at 90110636  , or email: ling.ck7@gmail.com if more information is needed.
I'll be glad to assist.
