Yes, most exclusive marketing agreement sign is usually for a period of 3 months, however, is signing for 5 months a reason for you to terminate the agreement? Could it be a case of you don't know what you don't know and he don't know what you don't know that he did not bring up the duration of exclusive agreement period?

Hi Benjamin,

You're right, CEA states that the maximum exclusive period is 3 months. Afterwhich if your property remains unsold and you're willing to let your agent continue the exclusivity, you are supposed to sign another exclusive form to extend the period for up to another 3 months too.

I'm not sure if you had sign the CEA prescribed exclusive agreement form with your agent. If you did sign the right form, the exclusive will automatically lapse after 3 months from the date specified.

Some salesperson may not inform you that the exclusive agreement can be terminated at any point of time if you feel that the salesperson is not working towards your interest.

You need to trust your salesperson so as to achieve the best results for your sale. If there is any miscommunications along the way, it will be good to sort it out face to face to prevent further misunderstanding.
