There are many choices for me in resale due to budget constraints. And I'm selling my flat soon due to divorce. I considered renting a flat from HDB and in the meantime wait for BTO. Is this possible and should I submit my rental application only after my current flat is sold? Thanks

Hi Karynne,

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate situation, I hope you are managing well. Have you guys engaged an agent yet for the sale? Suggest to write in and enquire about the possibility of this rental flat earlier to see whether is feasible. Typically your case will need to try to appeal, especially if you are getting cash proceeds from the sale. Rental flat from HDB typically is set aside for applicants with financial difficulty situation.

Based on my experience from my clients, it will be challenging to rent a flat directly from HDB after your sale because there is a waiting list for HDB rental flats and HDB will also take into consideration your sale proceeds from the sale of your current flat and advise you to rent in the open market.
