We recently view a 2+1 flat near MRT, with aircon but partial furnished at S$1,400.
The agent namecard shows, D D of HSR.
As we commit, she ask us not to e-stamp tenancy agreement later and pay Power and Supply in owner's name.
Then a man came in, was introduce as owner's brother. After we both sign on the Letter of Intent. We found that the name card of this brother and owner's name differ but he "imitate" signing (owner) name.
They then told us that the owner is in jail for another few years and is inconvenience to do legal document to authorise him to act.
They ask us to trust them as it has been so doing for the past tenants.
In this way, the property tax will be the same and continue to enjoy rebates from town council, power supply, or any incentive the government gives ad hoc.
Hi Guru, please advice how to protect ourselves from anything to our disadvantage later.
The location, price and house condition is ok with us.

You must fully understand the RISKS involved (without E-Stamping, etc) before you commit to rent. It's a matter of own choice. If you are not feeling comfortable, you can alway look for another deal. Read More
