Hi. My HDB will only MOP in 2028.

If I remarry before MOP and my future spouse holds a resale HDB, is there any option other than selling away one of the HDB? What are the chances of me appealing to HDB to allow me to sell my HDB before MOP, in view of remarrying? Have you encountered similar cases?

Or is there other ways I can work around this? E.g. transfer my HDB to my dad or add my dad as co-owner (family nucleus of me + my kids + dad) before MOP?

Hi,

1) A married couple can only hold on to one HDB flat. This is non-negotiable.
2) If your current flat is a BTO, the HDB will properly not allow you to sell in the market but to take it back at 90% of your purchase price or 80% of the current market rate whichever is lower.
3) You are also not allowed to perform any transfer or part-share selling before meeting MOP. This is against the policy of MOP.
4) I suggest you write to the HDB to seek advice via their feedback channel.
5) You should emphasize the following:
(a) Need to get married as soon.
(b) Current HDB still under MOP.
(c) Future spouse has a resale HDB flat.
(d) Keep the current flat for parents if they don't have any other accommodation.

Dear sir/mdm,

HDB only allows a married couple to own 1 HDB, therefore if your future spouse also owns a HDB, you will be required to sell 1. As to which to sell, it maybe up to HDB to determine. We are unable to advise on that. Similarly, any transfer of ownerships has to be approved by HDB especially during MOP. Assuming that HDB does approve to your request of transferring the ownership to your dad, he will also need to be eligible to own the property, and has the necessary finances to own the property. If both your parents are around, then they will need to be eligible to own the property together too.

Hello,

It's dependant on case to case. If your dad doesn't own any properties and he's eligible to hold a property, HDB may allow you to transfer the HDB to his name though it is unlikely. You must also fulfill the MOP before you can initiate the application to transfer ownership.
